The Armorer's Helmet, The Mandalorian (S1)
The Armorer's helmet was my second helmet project and provided an opportunity to refine my production workflow, building on the lessons learned from the previous build. As with many of my projects, I’ve continued to refine the painting process over the years since first producing this helmet.
The helmet was 3D modeled in Autodesk Fusion 360 and printed using SLA resin. It was molded in silicone with a brush-up approach and an air foam epoxy mold shell instead of a fiberglass shell to save time. Before molding, a coat of thinned body filler was applied to the master to match the surface texture of the screen used helmet and ensure consistency between castings.
The final pieces were slush-cast in urethane resin and received a base coat of 2K gloss chrome, followed by a gold candy coat to accurately match the metallic hue of the screen-used helmets. The helmet was then fitted with a removable visor and an interior fabric liner.
