Nice to meet you!
I'm Michael Muir, an aspiring SFX Artist and the owner of Red Bow Props. Like many contemporary makers, I am a homegrown artist, having developed the majority of my skills through self-directed online learning and brute-force trial and error.

While my day job remains in the sciences, I have made my creative endeavors a priority outside of work hours. This provides its own share of challenges, but it has given me the freedom to experiment extensively with various processes and materials in SFX production, building a broad knowledge base for approaching new projects. Early on, I adopted 3D modeling and printing to stay on the cutting edge of SFX production workflows and expand my output despite limited space and tools.

The core focus of my projects has been end-to-end completion, often requiring me to learn entirely new methods of fabrication. I strive to be proficient in every step of SFX and prop production so that I can be a versatile asset in a team setting and have a clear understanding of downstream processes. My experience ranges from initial 3D modeling and engineering, to mold design and acting, to the final processes of painting, weathering, electronics, and dressing.

At my core, I am deeply detail-oriented and a perfectionist—a trait that can be challenging but rewarding. I am always willing to go the extra mile to incorporate a minuscule detail or feature and ensure my work is of the highest quality, both inside and out.

My current area of expertise is hard-surface, Sci-Fi props and costume components. However, my passion for SFX work extends across the entire field, and I am always looking to dive into new subjects and mediums, such as creature design and fabrication.
