Var'uun Inflictor, Starfield
The Va'ruun Inflictor rifle, from the video game Starfield, was a welcome change of pace, as I spend much of my time focusing on helmet builds. While the rifle form factor and overall build process were more straightforward than helmets, the distinct faceted art style and complex paint application of the Va'ruun Inflictor kept this project interesting and challenging.
The rifle prop was 3D modeled in Autodesk Fusion 360. The final model is based on the in-game geometry, with slight modifications to account for 3D printing in the real world. Parts were strategically split for downstream processes, including printing, bodywork, and painting. The larger sections were engineered to be 3D printed as hollow SLA resin parts, which were then backfilled with rigid urethane foam. This offered the best of both worlds: high resolution and sufficiently durable prints. Steel rods were incorporated at the main joining points of the rifle body to reinforce the glue joints.
